Sports Management Society

Sign up today to participate in the Sport Management Society's Super Bowl Saturday Challenge on Saturday, February 1st at 3:00 PM Students will form 5-member co-ed teams and compete in challenges such as a touchdown contest, ultimate football game, end zone dance contest, and red zone obstacle course.  If they don't have a team, they can register as an individual and we will put them on a team the day of the event. Registration is free. In addition to teams, we also need volunteers to serve as officials, scorekeepers, sports information directors, and other event operations staff. 

The Sport Management Society will meet on Wednesday, January 15th from 7:30 pm - 8:30pm in Coliseum 3006 to discuss details of this event as well as other upcoming SMS initiatives.

Spring 2014

Welcome back to school, and Happy New Year! I hope that things are well with everyone. New Year means new things! There have been some changes in the department. This semester as many of you may know that Dr. Bussell will not be returning to the university, but it appears that Mr. Scremin and Mrs. Henderson are fitting right in. Some of you guys will be graduating this Spring, I am one of them. ATHLETIC STADIUM/GYMNASIUM EVENT WORKER (WINTER SPORTS)
Closing Date:  Open Until Filled
ATHLETIC STADIUM/GYMNASIUM POSITIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Announcer:
Announces the play-by-play details of each game; to include, making public safety announcements
during different segments of each game. The announcer also relays information regarding other aspects of the facility, as needed.
(Compensation-$15.00 an hour)
Assistant Videographer:
Assists the videographer with equipment arid other duties assigned by the videographer.
(Compensation-$15.00 an hour)
Cleanup Staff:
The cleanup team cleans the stadium of all debris in stands, including any necessary spot washing of concrete areas. Remove all trash from field, track, grounds area and all parking lots at the end of each game day. This team is also responsible for emptying all waste receptacles into the main dumpster.
(Compensation- Crew Leader $20.00 an hour, Crew $15.00 an hour)
Clock Operator:
The clock operator keeps the time and operates the clock during active games.
(Compensation-$12.50 an hour)
Extra Help:
Extra help is needed for every game. Many situations arise unexpectedly and quickly. The persons serving as extra help assist all 'of the personnel as they have the ability to move from area to area and from one side of the stadium to another. Also keep restrooms stocked and trash cans emptied as needed.
(Compensation-Dependent on assigned job responsibilities, pay will be rate of position).
Gateman/Ticket Taker:
After tickets are sold to patrons, the gateman/ticket taker will accept the ticket and tear the stub. The stub represents a valid ticket.
(Compensation-$12.50 an hour)
Media Board:
Operates the media board to display announcements and other school information during all games.
(Compensation-$20.00 an hour)
Pass Gateman:
The pass gateman will verify passes and keep a log of all persons who have entered games via passes and the type of pass he or she has used for admittance i.e. press pass, school board pass, etc.
(Compensation-$12.50 an hour)
Videographer:
On-site to make videos of games for school use and historical purposes. Also to exchange films with visiting schools if requested.
(Compensation-$20.00 an hour)
Scanner:
The scanners are the first line of defense as they scan patrons for unsafe objects. Scanners also physically check bags and monitor the security walk-through.
(Compensation-$12.50 an hour)
Stadium Manager:
Oversees the overall stadium operation for each game, to include onsite personnel assignments, financial supervising and personnel equipment assignment. The stadium manager ensures that all equipment/devices are returned and secured after each game. At a designated time the stadium manager will verify all funds counted by each ticket seller, the ticket report calculations and secure all financial information. 100%
(Compensation-$25.00 an hour)
Statistician:
Keeps the statistics of the players and teams for each game.
(Compensation-$10.00 per hour)
Ticket Seller:
Sells tickets to patrons at the appropriate rate in exchange for admittance tickets at stadium booths. This person has a cash till that is verified before leaving the presence of the stadium manger. At the designated time, this person is escorted with security to the stadium office where he or she will complete their ticket report and count their collected funds for verification.
(Compensation-$12.50 per game)
